A substitute in Luxembourg's 1-0 defeat in Estonia this Saturday, Leandro Barreiro was involved in a major mix-up that almost sent him back to Benfica early.

Even without being called upon to play, the midfielder received a yellow card in the 84th minute that would have ruled him out of the last match of this international window, against Bulgaria, on the 6th, because he had already received one in the previous match, against Iceland (3-0 defeat).

The Eagles player was reportedly punished following alleged protests with the refereeing team and, after receiving the aforementioned card, went up to the fourth official in a defiant tone: "What did I say? Why? Me?"

Visibly agitated, Leandro Barreiro had to be calmed down by his national team coach, Jeff Strasser, while still throwing his shirt onto the pitch in a final moment of revolt.

However, and the story does not end here, in the end Leandro Barreiro did not receive the yellow. According to UEFA, and confirmed by Jeff Strasser, the referee punished Marvin Martins, a player who also did not leave the substitutes' bench.

Thus, the Benfica midfielder will remain in camp and is expected to return to the starting XI in Tuesday's game, instead of returning to Seixal to begin preparation for hosting Vitória de Guimarães, scheduled for the 11th.
