Footballer Kylian Mbappé, of Spanish side Real Madrid, coached by Portuguese José Mourinho, will leave the France camp, after scoring and going off injured in the win in Turkey, in the Nations League, the French federation (FFF) announced this Friday.

"Mbappé injured his knee during the winning goal. He suffered a tendon injury and will miss the rest of the international break. Get well soon, Kylian!" the organization said in a note published on social media.

Mbappé, 27, secured France's success over Turkey (1-0), in Izmit, on their debut in the 2026/27 edition of the Nations League, by scoring in the 54th minute, but went off injured moments after that play, after complaining of discomfort in his left knee, which even led him to sit down on the pitch.

"No, he is not okay. There was swelling in the knee as a result of a knock. I think he will have to return to Madrid. We are not going to take any risks," said head coach Zinédine Zidane, in statements to television station TF1, at the end of the opening-round match of Group A1.

The striker and France captain is returning to Madrid, where he will be assessed by the club's medical team and undergo further tests to determine the severity of the injury and the estimated recovery time, missing the next three matches for Les Bleus in this international break.

After the victory in Turkey, which marked former midfielder Zinédine Zidane's debut in charge of France, the French visit Belgium on Monday, in Brussels, followed by home matches against Italy and the Belgians on 2 and 5 October, both in Saint-Denis, on the outskirts of Paris.

France, Nations League champion in 2021 and third-placed in 2025, has the same three points as Belgium, which won in Italy (2-0).

Record scorer for the French senior team with 67, Kylian Mbappé has nine goals in as many matches for club and country in 2026/27, the season in which he began to be coached by José Mourinho at Real Madrid.

Left knee problems had already affected Mbappé in the second half of last season and kept him out of some matches, but did not prevent his presence at the 2026 World Cup, in which the forward contributed to France's fourth place and became the all-time top scorer of the main national team competition, with 22 goals in as many matches.
