Vangelis Pavlidis, Benfica’s Greek international striker, is in great form at the start of this season, but he did not add any goal to his personal tally in the Madeira match against Marítimo, so he looks with particular delight at Wednesday’s meeting in Moreira de Cónegos.

The match is part of the 3rd round of the League, is a postponed fixture and, in theory, presents levels of difficulty that the Reds should not underestimate, given that one of the teams in the leading pack of the championship in recent years will be waiting. Pavlidis, however, is rubbing his hands.

Moreirense is, then, the Greek’s favourite opponent, the main target for the Greek striker’s goals. Last season, for example, he scored three in the Eagles’ 4-0 rout in Moreira de Cónegos.

In total, Pavlidis has five goals scored in four matches against Moreirense, all in the championship. Estoril and Casa Pia are the other Portuguese championship teams that have also conceded five goals to the Reds’ number 14, but they have already faced Benfica this season and have five such meetings.

And here is a serious warning to the team coached by Vasco Botelho da Costa: Estoril and Casa Pia felt the full force of Hurricane Pavlidis, who scored one goal and three goals respectively. The Greek came away scoreless from the clash with Marítimo and now turns to Moreirense with the aim of increasing his personal tally.

Pavlidis, it should also be noted, has 11 goals and 3 assists in just nine matches played in the current season.
